A perfect week

By

Ever since I made the decision to get in shape, I’ve never quite managed to get in every exercise session I planned for the week until now.

I recently made the decision to switch my cardio and weight training around in an effort to get my aerobic fitness up for rugby refereeing next month. The switch in schedule seems to have done wonders for my motivation as well as my fitness.

Monday I started off with a gentle run, 5.6km in just under 31 minutes. Didn’t feel especially good as I was running, burning lungs and my ankle felt stiff most of the way around.

Tuesday was a bit fo a squeeze as we had dinner plans but I managed to get in 12 minutes of kickboxing with my bag in the garage before going out. Usually I run out of steam when kickboxing and start getting sloppy with my techniques, but I managed to throw just one bad left and one poor kick the entire time. Apparently I’m quite accurate with my kicks too, there’s a nice imprint of my shin on one side of the bag now.

I had intended to go for a run on Wednesday afternoon but the weather conspired against me so instead I went to the gym and did a kickfit class. Talk about a workout, at the end of the session I was covered in sweat but loved it. Might make that a regular Wednesday night activity now.

Thursday was a gym session, nothing spectacular although I am back to lifting 100kg on the leg press.

Today was off for another run, this time 7.5km. I also decided to indulge one of my bad habits when running: my competitive streak. I’ve been doing 5:30/km for most of my runs this year which is quite a bit slower than last year so today I decided to push it and just see if I could handle the extra pace. Turns out I could, knocked over four minutes off my previous time.

I’m absolutely stoked with the way this week has gone. Here’s hoping the next one goes as well.
